ON Becomes a Sponsor of Uppspretta Suðurland

ON Power has signed an agreement to become an official sponsor of Uppspretta Suðurland, a festival dedicated to growth, innovation and value creation in South Iceland.

Uppspretta brings together a conference, exhibition area and networking opportunities, creating a meeting place for entrepreneurs, businesses, investors, municipalities and the public. The festival is organised by the Association of Municipalities in South Iceland (SASS), the University Centre of South Iceland and Visit South Iceland, to strengthen innovation and value creation across the region.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability and Value Creation

ON Power operates the Hellisheiði and Nesjavellir geothermal power plants in South Iceland and has long emphasised innovation and the multiple use of resources. At the ON Geothermal Park at Hellisheiði, the outputs of the Hellisheiði Power Plant are utilised for a wide range of activities. Development is currently underway on Glóð, a new innovation hub within the park. Once operational, Glóð will provide startups and entrepreneurs with a platform to take their first steps and benefit from the opportunities created by the circular economy.

Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, Leader of Innovation at ON Power, says the partnership aligns closely with the company’s priorities and that innovation plays an important role in the work of both organisations.

“We welcome this ambitious initiative by SASS and its partners and are excited to support Uppspretta. The festival aligns well with ON Power’s focus on sustainable value creation, innovation and a strong business environment. As an employer in the region, we want to foster innovation within our own operations while also supporting the ideas and solutions of others, including through the Geothermal Park and Glóð, our planned innovation hub at Hellisheiði.”

A Shared Commitment to Regional Development

SASS places strong emphasis on bringing together key stakeholders across the region to support the continued development of South Iceland’s business community. Lína Björg Tryggvadóttir, Project Manager at SASS, welcomes the agreement and says it highlights the importance of the festival.

“It is extremely important for us to have a strong and leading company such as ON Power join this major initiative. Uppspretta is intended to serve as a driving force for all South Iceland, and ON Power’s support demonstrates the strength and unity that exist within the region’s business community when it comes to fostering innovation close to home.”

Conference, Exhibition and Networking

Uppspretta will be held for the first time this November and is intended to serve as a platform for ideas, collaboration and new opportunities in South Iceland. The festival will be a diverse two-day event, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, South Icelandic businesses and the public at the Horseday Hall.

The programme and further information about the event can be found on the Uppspretta website.
