ON Power and Ölfus Cluster Partner to Drive Sustainable Solutions for the Future

ON Power and Ölfus Cluster recently signed a memorandum of understanding on collaboration in research and innovation in the fields of sustainable resource utilization, environmental protection, and energy transition. The partnership will include developing joint projects and mutual support for each party’s initiatives, including sharing expertise and experience and providing professional guidance.

“We are very pleased to take this step with ON Power and see significant opportunities in collaboration on research and innovation that support a sustainable future,” said Páll Marvin Jónsson, Managing Director of Ölfus Cluster.

Ölfus Cluster is a knowledge cluster of companies and public entities involved in innovation, product development, and research. The cluster works to strengthen business development in Ölfus and across South Iceland, with a particular focus on sustainable food production.

The collaboration with Ölfus Cluster aligns well with ON Power’s strategic priorities and with the activities of ON Power’s Geothermal Park, a green industrial park located next to Hellisheiði Power Plant. The park emphasizes circular thinking and sustainable innovation to maximize the use of the plant’s geothermal by-products. Within the Geothermal Park, Glóð, an innovation hub currently under development, will provide research and innovation facilities with access to geothermal resources. One objective of the memorandum of understanding between ON Power and ÖC is to assess whether projects can be located within Glóð.

“Through Ölfus Cluster, we gain a strong partner that shares our vision of leveraging knowledge, facilities, and resources to create solutions that benefit both industry and society in the long term,” said Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, Innovation Leader at ON Power, who signed the agreement together with Páll Marvin and Eva Lind Guðmundsdóttir, Project Manager at ÖC, and Helga Kristín Jóhannsdóttir, Head of the Geothermal Park.
