VAXA Technologies is one of the companies based in ON’s Geothermal Park an industrial park in development near the Hellisheiði plant, where green innovation and responsible resource use are paramount.
Natural Blue Color Now Available
Yesterday, VAXA Technologies announced a landmark agreement with food producer Oterra to use microalgae-derived colorants, celebrated with an event at the Elliðaár station.
VAXA’s microalgae farm in ON’s Geothermal Park produces a naturally blue-green pigment. According to Kristinn Hafliðason, Managing Director of VAXA, access to natural blue color has previously been limited for food producers.
“For the first time, large food companies can use a natural blue color in any products they choose,” says Kristinn, adding that the agreement offers a new vision for the food industry.
Energy Turned into Food
Oterra, a global food-industry leader, is one of the world’s largest service providers to food companies. Kristinn notes that the partnership can significantly lower the food industry’s carbon footprint.
“The E2F (Energy to Food) system transforms our ideas about food production and is the first step toward providing everyone with healthy, high-quality nutrition without depleting the earth’s resources. By tapping directly into the Hellisheiði plant, we literally turn energy into food without exploiting natural resources,” says Kristinn, referring to the E2F technology that VAXA’s scientists developed from scratch.
ON POWER congratulates VAXA Technologies on the agreement and thanks them for their continued collaboration.
