The French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, visited ON Power’s Hellisheiði Power Plant this week along with a business delegation, where the group learned about Icelandic solutions in the field of renewable energy and climate issues.
The visit was part of the minister’s official visit to Iceland and gave the guests an opportunity to learn about how geothermal energy has laid the foundation for the energy transition and sustainable development in Iceland.
Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, innovation leader at ON Power, gave a presentation on the utilization of geothermal energy in Iceland and how renewable energy has contributed to increased energy security, value creation, and the competitiveness of Icelandic society. The presentation also addressed the opportunities inherent in the continued development of geothermal utilization and the importance of innovation in maximizing the value of renewable resources. The minister and the delegation were particularly interested in ON Power’s Geothermal Park, which is currently being developed in the area.
The visit reflects the growing international interest in Icelandic expertise in geothermal energy and the solutions that have been developed in this country in the field of renewable energy and climate issues. ON Power considers it important to share the experience accumulated through decades of geothermal utilization and to cooperate with parties working toward a sustainable energy future.
