A Swiss company interested in producing hydrogen and methane in ON’s Geothermal Park at Hellisheiði is about to begin an environmental-impact assessment. The company, Nordur, has signed a letter of intent with ON POWER for site access and key utilities—aligning with ON POWER’s strategy to maximize the use of by-products from power production. Already at the Geothermal Park, Algaennovation processes microalgae, benefiting from both electricity and CO₂ as well as fresh water from ON POWER.
Nordur, now launching the assessment with an official announcement, plans to obtain CO₂ and power from ON POWER. The electricity will primarily be used to produce hydrogen on-site, which is then combined with CO₂ to create methane. The company intends to sell these products domestically and abroad.
