ON Power and Carbfix recently hosted a successful event at the Geothermal Exhibition at the Hellisheiði Power Plant as part of DesignMarch. Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, Head of Innovation at ON Power, moderated an engaging panel discussion exploring how architecture, landscape design, and engineering can work together to create more sustainable solutions.
The conversation emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, its role in sustainability, and how everyone involved in designing infrastructure can contribute to a greener future. Guests heard how the natural environment of the Hengill area has influenced the design of the Hellisheiði Power Plant, the Geothermal Exhibition, and the upcoming innovation hub Glóð, which will rise within the Geothermal Park in the coming months.
One particularly charming detail highlighted during the discussion was that the spear-shaped roof of the Hellisheiði Power Plant points directly toward Snæfellsjökull — the mythical entry to the center of the Earth in Jules Verne’s story.
In a fitting twist, nature underscored its presence that day: a dense fog enveloped the entire area, obscuring the very landscape being discussed, as seen in the accompanying photo.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all panelists for their valuable insights, and to all guests whose participation made the event a success.
