A year of growth, innovation and collaboration

The year 2025 was both dynamic and impactful for ON Power’s Geothermal Park, marked by significant advances in development, innovation, and collaboration. Strong emphasis was placed on strengthening the Geothermal Park as a living platform for sustainable energy utilisation, circular thinking, and knowledge sharing, while simultaneously increasing the site’s visibility both in Iceland and internationally.

Below are last year’s highlights and key milestones, including the launch of a new website, the growth of companies within the park, preparations for the innovation building Glóð, and a range of partnerships, presentations, and projects. Looking ahead, we do so with optimism and anticipation for continued development and new opportunities in 2026.

Key Highlights at ON Power’s Geothermal Park in 2025

– A new website for ON Power’s Geothermal Park was launched.
– VAXA Technologies continued its growth in the park, and Climeworks maintained strong operations, further strengthening the Geothermal Park’s position as an international hub for innovation and climate solutions.
– A competition was held for a name for a new building planned to rise within the Geothermal Park in the coming years, dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. The name Glóð (meaning in English is Ember) was selected from a large number of submissions.
– Memoranda of understanding were signed with the University of Iceland, Reykjavik University, Orkídea, the Agricultural University of Iceland, and the Iceland Ocean Cluster, with the aim of making Glóð a vibrant hub for research, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
– The Geothermal Park and Glóð were presented widely both in Iceland and abroad, including at the Samorka Conference, Samorka’s innovation forum, and the international sustainability conference Sustainability LIVE.
– An innovation project was carried out in which a stream within the Geothermal Park was relocated to a more suitable position using so-called rock-rolls.
– Numerous domestic and international visitors visited ON Power and the Geothermal Park throughout the year, including policymakers, mayors, international leaders, and many groups attending the Geothermal Exhibition at the Hellisheiði Power Plant.
